Homemade Pizza

In our effort to save money, we have been making our own homemade pizza. The recipe that I use makes very yummy pizza and is quite simple. And as a bonus the girls love to help make it. For those that would like the recipe. Here it is:

In 3/4 cups warm water add 1 tsp of sugar and 2 tsp of yeast. Stir and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Then add 1/2 tsp of salt and 2 Tbs of olive oil; stir. Measure out 2 cups of flour in a bowl and stir in yeast mixture until it forms a ball of dough. Put in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Let rise until double--1hour. When dough is ready, roll out onto pizza pan. Add sauce, cheese and toppings. Cook for 20-25 minutes at 375 degrees. Enjoy!!

My Ray of Sunshine

Yesterday, I decided to pick the lesser of two evils and stay home with Kaylee again since I was still fighting a migraine. When Kaylee woke up, she looked at me and said "I'm back". I thought that was an interesting way of saying she was awake. But it turns out she was dreaming and went somewhere in her dream. Overall she let me hibernate on the couch and waited to get into mischeif after David got home. (Towards bedtime she went missing and was extremely quite. David went looking for her and found her painting her fingernails.) While Naomi was cuddling with me on the couch before bathtime, Kaylee got really upset because Naomi was in her spot (my left side). When I wouldn't kick Naomi out of her spot, she played eeny-meeny-miny-moo and strangely enough her spot to cuddle was where Naomi was. Have you ever heard of a reserved spot for kids to cuddle on? Well, Kaylee sure has one. Later that night during prayer, David tried to help her and she told David, "Daddy don't interrupt me! I am trying to say my prayers." After she scolded him she apologized to David, gave him a kiss, told him she would play basketball with him and then she went back to saying her prayers. This kid makes me smile all the time. She really is my ray of sunshine. Below are some pictures of her manicure job. She actually did a pretty good job.

Bragging Rights!!

Sometimes you just have to brag!! Naomi has gotten really good at reading. She can read Level 1 books pretty much all by herself. She may need a little help with a word here or there but mainly she reads the book all on her own. Tonight Naomi went with me to the pharmacy to get some stronger meds for my head and we decided to take a quick trip to the library as well. Naomi was a very thoughtful sister and checked some books out for Kaylee. When we got home, Kaylee wanted me to read to her. Since my head was still killing, I had Naomi read to her. It was so sweet to see Naomi reading to Kaylee. I was able to sneak a couple cute pictures of them reading together.

How sweet!!!

No Rest for the Weary

I have been fighting a migraine for the past couple of weeks. Today it finally won. I felt so miserable this morning that David canceled his sub job and subbed for me instead. All I wanted to do was pull the covers over my head and sleep. But alas I still had Kaylee to take care of. Kaylee was pretty calm today. However, she still wanted a lot of Mommy time because it is very rare that she has me to herself. So here it is the end of the day, my head still hurts, my face is hurting too now, and all I want to do is vomit. I would really like to stay home again tomorrow but I would still have Kaylee. I guess I have to decide which is the lesser of two evils high school students or my own daughter.

Scones Anyone

Today is MLK day so I had the day off. Usually on my days off and on Saturdays, we like to have donuts for a special breakfast. In our effort to spend less money, we have cut out our donuts for breakfast. This morning I wanted to have something special for breakfast but not spend any money doing it. After much thought I decided to make scones. The girls loved helping me make them. The recipe made a plethora of scones. So now we have breakfast for the rest of the week. Oh yes, they are quite yummy too!!

Spa Day

The girls decided to give themselves "feet" baths in old diaper wipe containers. I personally did not want water all over the floor. So I pulled out my foot spa and let the girls soak their feet. They totally enjoyed it!! Good thing their feet are small enough so they can share it. :o)

Getting Rid of Our Crutches

Kaylee has been potty trained since this summer. However, we never got rid of her "potty" froggy in our downstairs bathroom. Even though, Kaylee can use a regular toilet just fine whenever she used our downstairs bathroom she would use her frog. In fact, if something was in front of the frog preventing her from using it, she would run to another bathroom in the house instead of using the regular toilet in that bathroom. Recently she has gotten quite lazy about emptying her frog after using it. So this past weekend I put it out in the garage. And wouldn't you know it. She is using the regular toilet in that bathroom now. This gave me some food for thought. How many of us have "crutches" in our life that we continue to hold on to? How much better off would we be if we just removed the crutch. If we continue to hang on to our crutch, we will continue to use said crutch. But if it is no longer there, we can't use it. And once we do get rid of our crutch we need to make sure not to reintroduce it into our lives. So right now I am evaluating my life and trying to rid myself of some of my crutches.

Just to Make You Smile

Kaylee fell asleep when David came to pick Naomi and I up from school today. When we got back home, David laid her on the couch with her coat still on. When Kaylee woke up, Naomi told Kaylee to take her coat off because she was preheating herself. :o)

My Woodland Fairy

Back in November, the girls and I went to the Ren Fest with my parents. I took this picture there and recently I edited it. What do you think?

Naomi is 6!!!

Every New Years marks a special day for our family. Not only is it a start of a New Year but it is Naomi's birthday. This year Naomi got to open her presents in three waves. We allowed her to open one of her presents at midnight. (She had been dying to open her present from her Grandma and Grandpa Brown.) We were planning on having her actual birthday after dinner that night however Kaylee fell asleep on the way home from dinner. So to appease Naomi, we allowed her to open some of her small gifts. Then on the 2nd, we had her family birthday party with cookie cake. She was able to open the rest of her presents including two gifts that arrived from Utah that day. I had been looking for a special Fancy Nancy doll for Naomi for her birthday but they were all sold out here in Houston. So I asked my parents while they were in Utah if they could see if they could find one there. And I was in luck they found one and it arrived on the 2nd along with their gift. Thanks for getting it for me Mom and Dad. Naomi loved all of her presents. Her favorites are the Littlest Pet Shop Day Care and her Fancy Nancy doll and outfits. Here is just a few pictures from the actual birthday celebration.

Momma Guess What...

Kaylee came and sat on my lap last night held my face between her two hands and said, "Momma, guess what?" After giving the appropriate response, she told me that she was going to be a TEENAGER!! Oh, no! My 3 year old is growing up way too fast. I love her anyway!
